More holiday windows… I can’t help myself. These are from Tiffany and Co. (their website also got a great looking holiday make-over…  be sure to click through the link!).

Not that I have too much to compare it to, but there is something magical about New York City this time of year. Everywhere looks dressed up and is lighted beautifully. It’s like NYC itself is one big window display of a classic holiday scene. One of my holiday traditions is going up to midtown and checking out all the big department stores and their holiday windows. Bergdorf’s has always been my favorite. Below are a few pictures i took over the weekend… it was around dusk, so reflections of NYC creep into many of these snaps, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Every year Berdorf’s has a theme, usually not holiday-related, but it is in the incredible story-telling of the theme that the holidays creep in… This year’s theme is “The Arts”.

The “Literature” window seemed to be the most popular. I wasn’t able to get the whole window, and was too impatient in the 30 degree temps to wait… but you get the idea.

Weekend Snapshots 07.07.14

I always seem to be left behind on the big holiday weekends in NYC, but I don’t mind. I love it when the city is empty and everything slows down.

070714_ws_02I can’t believe I’ve lived in NYC for ten years and never been to the local beaches! I guess I’m a bit of a beach snob, but my love of sea and sand won over this past weekend… (and of course I loved the typography on this surf sign…).

070714_ws_03Summer skies always look bigger, and more promising in the summer.

I always look for special shells when I’m at a beach, and “mermaid tears” (sea glass!). Here’s my loot from the weekend…. I also was experimenting with different mediums for painted typography… Something I’d like to incorporate in an upcoming branding piece I’m working on for a client… Hopefully I can get it right.

There’s this quote that’s been stuck in my head for a bit from Shakespeare’s Hamlet, “I have of late, but wherefore I know not lost all my mirth.” Practicing again with the painted type… admittedly looks awful at the moment. Someday this will be the “before” picture! (In the back is a mood board for a new client… so excited for this one!)

I love it when my friends teach me about important artists I’ve never heard of. My friend Tim took me to this exhibition of Mel Bochner. I was obsessing over writing and texture all weekend so it was this kind of perfect moment… above were my two favorites pieces from the show.

070714_ws_07Sometimes I feel awkward about my internet-ness. And I try not to think about my followers, or how many people are reading this right now, because it sort of freaks me out sometimes. But, when awesome brands and amazing people contact me out of the blue, I’m reminded of how lucky I truly am. Such was the case this weekend, when French artist and designer Coco contacted me about meeting up for lunch while she was staying in Brooklyn. I will be featuring her work later on the blog… what an inspiring girl!

That’s all for now- have a great week everyone!

Weekend Snapshots 06.09.14

This past week was full of little moments- easy to look over I guess, but significant enough that I wanted to capture and share them all with you.

As the week came to an end my co-workers and I headed over to The Rusty Knot, a little bar in the West Village facing the Hudson River. Bittersweet, we celebrated the last day of one of my favorites.

I’ve always thought there was something sort of magical about this bar. The best time to go is about an hour before sunset. Bathed in sunlight, we sipped our drinks and watched the sun slowly go down, disappearing into the Hudson River for the night. The bar itself reminds me of… perhaps grandpa’s summer cabin in the woods… near a lake. Regardless, I love everything about that place.

Mischa at Bumble and bumble gave me some perfect i960’s bangs, and some make-up tips to go with the new era of my face, (liquid eyeliner, wing tips).

Haircuts, sunset drinks, and the week out of the way, I started my weekend off working on some hand painted typography explorations. I bought different types of brushes, paper surfaces, and inks to see what sort of effect I could achieve with each one. Eventually, my efforts will evolve into a logo for a client…. but for now I’m just playing.

060914_ws_06West Elm had an Etsy pop-up shop this weekend, hosted by internet darling Katie Armour. My friend Michele, of Lucky Horse Press was invited to participate and I couldn’t have been more proud, (above is all of her lovely work- you can shop some of it here).

As I was leaving West Elm, Michele surprised me with a gift…. (pictured above- “besties” gold foil print and a West Elm frame).

Weekend Snapshots 04.21.14

042114_ws_01Spring has finally sprung in NYC and you can just feel the happiness and relief in the air… FINALLY! Of course I had to document (in flowers) this new season that’s upon us…. I hope it’s a nice, long season… I’m ready for long walks, outdoor dining and naps in the park.

Weekend Snapshots 03.24.14

032414_ws_01This past weekend was spent working on projects, takings lots of naps, and enjoying early breakfasts and long walks with friends. I think the never-ending Winter has officially gotten me down, and a quiet, low-key weekend was just what I needed.

032414_ws_02I had fun finishing up a Spring Inspiration board over on Pinterest with one of my favorite accessories brands- Loeffler Randall.

032414_ws_03My friend’s find it really amusing that I make real-life collages of my Pinterest boards before I pin, and I guess it sort of is. When I’m doing collaborations I like to create boards that really tell a story- every image and placement and relationship to one another is very thought out and purposeful- I like printing ideas out and playing around with them on my floor before I commit to starting a board.

032414_ws_04I wanted to tell the story behind the products, the inspiration and vision of Spring. What is it? Adventure, the Amalfi Coast, Water, Pattern… and so much more. You can check out the finished board here.

Weekend Snapshots 12.23.13

122313_ws_01It’s become a holiday tradition of mine to check out the holiday window displays uptown every year. While I try and see all the major players, Bloomingdales, Barney’s, Tiffany’s, etc there is one store I ABSOLUTELY have to see: Bergdorf Goodman’s. There is something utterly magical and fantastical about their displays… it really doesn’t feel like Christmas for me without stopping by. Below are some of my favorite snapshots, taken yesterday. Enjoy!

Weekend Snapshots 12.09.13

120913_ws_01It’s been a long time since I’ve posted my weekend snapshots. This little collection below should really more aptly be titled, “best of Fall 2013” instead. Favorite seasons always seem fleeting, and Fall seems to quickly have vanished as we are now deeply entrenched in Winter in NYC. The holiday light are up, snow makes occasional appearances, and there are a few holiday parties penciled into my calendar. But for just one moment, I wanted to look back and savor the Fall I’ve had this year. Not pictured, but something I’d like to share just the same- I had a serious health scare (and was relieved to find out I was going to be ok, at least this time around); I visited old, best friends from college in California and got to know husbands and new babies; my dear friend in Brooklyn gave birth to her first child, and romantically, well things have been great for me this Fall too. I am very grateful for all I have and have experienced this season- most of all, my health, and remembering what’s truly important. Below are a few snaps of favorite moments this season.

Central Park is photogenic all year round, but looks paricularly dressed up in the Fall...

This might as well be a collection of my favorite things (love the wallpaper). The scene at Brucie restaurant in Brooklyn.

Yep, I couldn’t help a few strolls in the Park to check out the leaves.

At intermission at Two Boys, Metropolitan Opera House.

The best view at the Guggenheim Museum…

Watching people check out the Christopher Wool exhibition at the Guggenheim.

Experimenting with braids…

Even the Empire State is getting ready for the holidays.

Cozy dinners to escape the cold… River Styx in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

120913_ws_11Catching up on Fridays over cocktails and live piano music.

Weekend Snapshots 09.09.13

090913_ws_01It’s funny how just changing your walk to the subway by a few blocks can change your perspective. As many of you know, I love signage and typography of any kind. This beautiful hand-painted sign and flower “sign” made my day.

Since it’s Fashion Week here in NYC, I’ve decided to dedicate this week’s blog to fashion-related things that inspire-  from illustration, to photography to bloggers capturing great behind-the-scenes moments, to the designers themselves. I hope you the week ahead…

Weekend Snapshots 09.02.13

090213_ws_01The summer is officially over. There is always something so bittersweet about the change of season. A regret of leaving summer behind, an anticipation of what will come for Fall. My co-worker recently said there was something so perfect about August, that it’s  like one long Sunday. You enjoy the last day of the weekend, but you know Monday’s right around the corner.

This Summer seemed to fly by… I mean, really- where did it go? It’s over? I felt like I didn’t do nearly enough. Or anything, really. What did I do? I was having some Summer guilt, so for the last and final weekend, I felt like I had to do something classically associated with Summer… Coney Island. Below are a few snaps from the white hot, hazy summer day.
