Inspired by… Allan Peters

I discovered the portfolio of Allan Peters about a year ago and frequently visit it for a little dose of inspiration (and in hopes that there is new work to be seen). Below is my absolute favorite project on his site… Look closely, you’ll appreciate the details.

Inspired by… the “designy illustrations” of Mikey Burton

Today I am pleased to share with you the “designy illustrations” of Mikey Burton. An Ohio native, Mikey Burton proudly describes his design aesthetic as “Midwesterny” and draws much of his inspiration from artifacts found throughout the hardworking, blue collar Rust Belt: old type-specimen sheets, arcane equipment manuals and ancient textbooks. Below are some of my favorites from his portfolio.

Inspired by… the Women in Godard Films

I’ve always loved the spirt and style of French New Wave films, and no one did it better than Godard. Equally compelling were the beauty and style of the women he chose to star in his films.Below are some of my favorites.

Inspired by… The blog of Kelly Wearstler, “My Vibe, My Life”

I’ve always been drawn to the somewhat irreverent style of Kelly Wearstler. I couldn’t have been more excited a few years ago, when a friend mentioned she had started a blog, My Vibe, My Life. I was hooked from the start. As she describes it,

“I am always aware of my surroundings and I spend time each day searching for beautiful and unusual things. I have an inherent affection for taking photos of the things that capture my attention and excite me. This is a personal collection of photos I have taken some old, some new. These images give me moments of happiness and inspiration during my busy days. I invite you into my vibe life.”

I couldn’t be more thrilled for the invitation. I hope you are as well.

Inspired by… The Illustrations of Chris Martin

Today I bring you the work of illustrator Chris Martin. I love his intricate style of illustration- it almost feels like it belongs in another era- but at the same time has a freshness to it that feels very “now” too. I was most impressed with his work for Johnny Walker. Head over to his site and check out more of his amazing work.

As usual, all above work is from the illustrator’s personal website, found here.

I was completely blown away when a friend sent me a link to the portfolio of Mike Kus awhile back. This man can do it all, and he does it all so well. I am particularly inspired by his outstanding web and mobile design.

Inspired By… the watercolors of Caitlin McGauley

This week I’ve been embracing the fleeting moments of Summer as it slips into Fall. I’ve been wearing all my favorite summer outfits (anchor pants, anchor dress, stripes… sense a theme?), and taking the long way home after work as an excuse to enjoy the warm nights… So it’s no wonder that my mind wandered this morning to the work of Caitlin McGauley. Watercolor, by it’s nature, has a sense of playfulness and whimsy to it, and there is something about McCauley subject matter and colors that remind me of the light, bright moments you might associate with the warmer, brighter times of the year.

Inspired by… Misprinted Type

I discovered the Misprinted Type website many years ago, and have since gone back again and again, whether to buy  a font, download some free “goodies” or just simply to be inspired by the beautiful body of work displayed there. Below are a few of my favorites images from the site- but I encourage you to visit the site as well and discover your own favorites!
